cards and other happy thoughts

Bright challenge – DP2

Yes I’m back with another card – hooray for me 😆  Today my card is for the DP2 Challenge “Bright Colors”.  Please excuse the poor colours in these photos, since I have used my new computer I’m really struggling to find a photo editor which suits me.  I’m still looking so hopefully things will improve.

The image from Mo’s Digital Pencil is “Checking Facebook”.  A great image.   This image is so much like me – I get up in the morning and have my breakfast while I check the computer.

The sentiment is from “Verve”.

The papers are from My Mind’s Eye paper pad “Hazel”.  Love these papers but I don’t have many full sheets left now which is a shame.

Hope you enjoyed today’s card.

SOG Challenge – Woodsy Mae

I have just realised how long it has been since I’ve shown you a card (or a complete card I’ve made).  So over the next week I hope to redeem myself . 😛

Today I’m entering a challenge (which seems to be a good way for me to get enthused and inspired) over at Some Odd Girl – June Challenge.  This is the sketch we are to use –

sketch4

Here is my interpretation –

SOG

The stamp is a digital stamp from Some Odd Girl (of course) and is called “Woodsy Mae”.  I’ve coloured her with Copics and added just a touch of sparkle to her pretty, but ODD, green hair.  The sentiment stamp is from Verve and I though it suited the style of the card.

SOG1

The little leaves are cut with dies from Cheery Lyn Designs.  The papers are from “the Madeline Collection” paper stack from Prima.

SOG2

Well that is all for today but hopefully I’ll be back very soon to show you another card for another challenge.

Queen’s Birthday at our house

Have I told you before that every 2nd month our family (or at least some of our family in Ballarat) get-together for a themed lunch.  Well if I haven’t, we do.  This time the theme was “Queen’s Birthday” because here last week was a long weekend to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday.

This is the sponge I cooked for our dessert –

qe11

I saw this idea on the web and loved it straight away – a Union Jack(ish) sponge.  ALL healthy, well except for the cream, sponge and raspberry jam, the raspberries and blue berries were healthy anyway.  😆

qe111

The menu was – Pork “Crown” Roast, Sponge (as above),  Pink Soda Pop Cake cut into crown shapes with jelly diamantes,  strawberry jelly slice with strawberries, which were supposed to look like hearts but floated around before the jelly set and were all askew.  We also had all sorts of red drinks – wine, cranberry juice and creamy soda.  We had some crowns to wear and of course I wore some faux pearls.  We played music from “Queen” and played some royal games.

I really enjoy these days and am now looking forward to the next occasion (which by the way is themed “Book Week”).

Mini Star Book – version II

Recently you will have noticed that I’ve been really lax with my card making.  To “gee” myself up and try to encourage some enthusiasm I decided to make a new version of an old favourite of mine, a “mini star book”.  I love cute little books of all kinds.  See HERE and HERE for my posts of my last previous star books.

This is a different version so I hope you enjoy –

2versionb

Here is a tutorial for you –

1.  Cut 2 pieces of card 3 x 3 cm, 2 pieces of gold paper 5 x 5 cm and 2 smaller pieces 3 x 3 cm, 6 pieces of shimmery cream paper 6 x 6 cm.

2versiona

2.  Fold the 6 cream pieces of paper in half vertically and horizontally.  Then turn the paper over and fold diagonally from corner to corner.

2versionj

3.  I have punched each cream sheet 4 times with an “incentive stationery” punch.  You could just as easily just punch the corners or sides or even stamp.

P1090545

4.  Now fold the 6 cream sheets – they should look similar to the photos below.

P1090546  P1090547

5.  Cover the card covers with the gold paper.  Cut the corners from the gold paper and glue to cover.  Then glue the 3 x 3 gold paper over the back of the cover.

2versionk

6.  Glue the 6 folded cream sheets together. Just make sure the folded corners are kept together.

7.  Attach the covers.

2versionh

2versioni

8.  Drill or punch a hole in the corner which is diagonally opposite to the folded corners, and thread a cord through.

9.  If you like glitter add some wet glitter to the edges of the pages.

This is how it should turn out.

Hope you enjoy this version.  I think it might be a nice addition to a Christmas tree.

I hope you will contact me if you have any questions (or if I have missed any steps in the tutorials )

Another sneak peek for card get-together

Before my holidays I was preparing some projects for a craft get-together.  Here is a tiny peek of the next project.

fly

I think everyone will enjoy this card.  The butterfly stamp is a stunner and I think it is a pretty card.

Last days of our holiday

Yes Chrissie, yesterday’s photos were from Phuket, Thailand, well done.  I think you will know where our last stop was too.  Let’s see –

sing4

Have you guessed already?  An absolutely amazing building.  We went to the top – WOW.

sing

Views over the world renowned gardens and domes.  The grey sky is very deceiving,  it doesn’t look hot does it?  Well I can assure you it was  VERY hot and humid.

sing1

We didn’t get a chance to see the gardens of a night which is a shame because it is supposed to be spectacular.

sing2

Inside the Cloud Dome.  Photos really can’t show you the overall height and amazing feel.

sing3

I have dozens of photos of flowers from inside the dome but I have just chosen one to show you.

We had a wonderful cruise and would recommend it to you.

More photos of a wonderful holiday

So did you guess that yesterday’s photos were of Bali, Indonesia?

Here are the next set of photos from the next country we visited –

ma

The King’s Palace.

ma1

If you have seen the film “Entrapment” you will know exactly where we were.

ma2

The beautiful “Blue Mosque”.  Unfortunately this is as close as we came to it.

ma3

A butterfly farm.

ma4

This old monkey looks so innocent but if you had seen what he was up to just minutes before you would know he was just putting on that “INNOCENT” look 🙄

Well you must be able to guess.  Where?

Hot, hot, hot …. to ….. not, not, definitely not

I’m back from a wonderful holiday. Ohh it was very humid but now I’m back to such wet and cold weather I can hardly remember how it felt.

I’m going to post a couple of photos each day for the next few days so you can guess where we have been.

Here are a couple of photos from our first stop –  Where were we?

Bali2

Stunning temples.

Bali5

Delish food.

Bali7

Such interesting sites.

bali15

Beautiful people.

Where?

Come back tomorrow for our next stop.

Footy fotos of a few of the family..

Too many “f’s” not to put an f in photos – sorry but my silly sense of humour couldn’t resist.

Some of the family went to the AFL football in Melbourne on Sunday.  It was a very one-sided match but that didn’t matter, for me it’s the atmosphere and enjoying the grandchildren’s reactions.  Here are a couple of photos of grandies and I taken at half-time.

Ivy and G'ma Footy May 2013 2nd

Julian and Grandma Footy May 2013

You can see that the children were happy and enjoying the experience.  When either team scored a goal our little fellow would call out “hooray – go Blues”, really had no idea what was happening but just enjoying everyone’s success.  It was a lovely family day out.  It would be such a shame if all of the drug scandals associated with football at the moment spoilt such an iconic Australian sport.

TIMBER!!!!!!

It was my elder ds’s birthday last week and of course I made him a card.  He and his family have been very busy, in fact as busy as beavers ;), renovating their recently purchased home.  The people who previously owned the house were very old and had let their large block become VERY overgrown.  There were trees and shrubs absolutely everywhere.  Since my son has moved in he has cut, loped and trimmed trees, but there are so many you can only tell if you saw it at the beginning of the transformation.  This is what I based my card for his birthday on.  he he he 😆

trees

This little fellow has been very busy – see his progress in the photos below.

Timber!!!!!

One down …..

Two down.

trees5

Trying to show you all the layers on this card – let me just say there are many. Had lots of layers to allow the trees to swivel and fall easily.  Unlike real trees these can stand up again straight away.

Hope he enjoyed his birthday and found the humour in the card.

2nd sneak peek for crafting day

Here is just a little peek at the next project for the crafting day (looks like it might be 22 or 29th June at this stage).

2 sneek

Not a card – can you guess (I hope not, I am very sneaky )  Such a cute/sweet image.  Images will vary.

Right, back to creating 2 more projects, I think they should be cards.

Bye for now,

lorraine

Just an idea !?!

ani_thinkingcap

Wondering if anyone would be interested in a ……. can’t think of the right word – not a workshop (too formal), not get-together (too informal) – an opportunity to have some crafty time together.  I would provide the venue, materials, and the instructions/guidance to make several papercraft items.  At this stage I’m thinking –

  • corner bookmark
  • tag
  • a few cards (different techniques – hopefully new to you).

This would be held in Ballarat, Australia so if you don’t live nearby don’t read on (sorry :() .  If there is any interest from further away I might be able to post out kits – who knows.

I would charge a very basic amount (I’m thinking $5 or so just to cover the materials).  At this stage I’m thinking a Saturday afternoon sometime in June.

I already have 2 “goers” and I think the most crafters I could take at one time would be 6.

Over the next few days I will give you more idea of what we might be creating (sneaky peeks as I complete the projects).  In the meantime if you are interested feel free to add a comment to this post or email me, some idea if there is any interest would be good.  It will be first in/first invited.

Any interest?

Get back to you in a couple of days.

Hearts and swirls

I haven’t been joining challenges lately and I thought I should remedy that, so today I have a project for Challenge 57 “Hearts & Swirls” at Out of a Hat Creations

heart3

Today’s project is the cover of a kraft notebook.  It is based on the Movie “Braveheart” with Mel Gibson (you might have guessed that already :?)

heart1

To meet the criteria of the challenge I’ve added 2 heart stick pins and 2 heart die cuts.  The swirls are rub-ons which were in my (large) stash of goodies.

heart4

The words I’ve added are a quote from the film (Malcolm Wallace).

heart2

Hope you enjoyed today’s project.

If I knit fast enough, does it count as exercise?

I saw the above quote on the web and had to use it somewhere in this post, so why not the heading.  Does knitting count as exercise? 😛

There are one or two shows on TV at the moment which I like to watch (not usually the case).  So that I had something to do while watching the shows I decided to do some knitting.  As I was walking through “Lincraft” to go to the craft section I noticed some pretty wool and asked the shop assistant if there was a pattern for a scarf for this wool “Lincraft – Elsa Ruffle Yarn”.  She said that the pattern was on the label.  Yes it was so simple there was enough room on the label.

scarf

It is such a simple pattern but it turns out so pretty.

scarf4

I have seen quite a few of these around, have you?  Here is the link on YouTube by Lincraft showing how to knit this ruffle yarn.

scarf5

It only took me one evening and one ball of yarn to finish the knitting then I only had to sew in the ends the next night.  Now what am I going to do while I watch my programs on TV?

scarf3

The old saying “Idle hands are the devil’s tools” could be right in my case because the pantry is very near the TV and evening snacking is very tempting.  Any suggestions – what do you do while you are watching TV?

Bye for now,

lorraine
