cards and other happy thoughts

Distressed …

.. not me but today’s card.  I’m entering into the Penny Black “Distressing” challenge.  I hope I get my link to the challenge right this time.  Last challenge I thought I had entered but apparently not – don’t know what I did wrong .

This style of card is one that I’m not confident with so I had to push myself to make a card but now I’m pleased that I did.  It took me ages putting it together and then I went 1 step to far and added a butterfly – wish I hadn’t done that.  Anyway here is today’s card –

I have used Jill Foster’s great ideas about using multiple dies to frame the focal stamp – love that idea.  I stamped Penny Black “Poppy Poem” with Walnut Stain Distress ink on dp then brushed on Perfect Pearls and sprayed with a little water (it doesn’t show up on the photo very well) then I restamped the image.  Stamped a music background (Whimsy Stamps) onto dp, added lace, pearls and butterfly.  Crimped some Kraft card and wiped white ink lightly over it to add to the bottom right corner.  Ran umber ink around all the edges.  The sentiment is from Taylored Expressions.

Now I’m off to link my entry.

Bye for now,

Ice cream toppings

Sprinkles, marshmallows and choc bits.  Now do I have your interest??? 😉  I have quite a few Magnolia stamps and I’m a little bit in love the “mini” magnolias especially.  So I was very happy when I saw that the “Magnolia Down Under Challenge #104” was “In the Kitchen”.  I knew straight away that I wanted to use mini magnolia with ice cream and a beautiful Magnolia Doohickey.  Quite a while ago I had spotted some lovely gifts made with test tubes full of goodies to top ice cream sundaes and thought this would be a novel idea for the challenge.  I went in search of the site I had seen it on and can’t find it — but I found another terrific blog “Splendiforous Creations” which provides terrific templates for the holders  → click here.

The original template is in inches so I have adapted the template to metric.  I will post the adapted template tomorrow once I have tidied it up a bit.

Here is my entry –

I’m a child at heart and had a great time with this little project.  Hope you enjoy it as well.

Bye for now,

Summertime

Summer is what we are all REALLY looking forward to here in Aussie so  Challenge #61 at Wee Memories – Summertime, called out to me.  I have made an “easel” card for the challenge and have tried to make it look a bit like a photo 😕 with glossy paper behind the stamped square.  On the base of the easel I have cut a rectangle of striped paper and added fringes to try to represent a beach towel.  Does it work???  I have also tried Jenny’s method of scratching up Kraft card to make sand for the beach but I also added a touch of  “brown sugar – Sparkly Fluff”.  After the effort of trying to make a sand effect you can barely see it because the towel covers most of it – duh.  (Can you see she has a little bit of sun burn across her nose, toes, knees and shoulders?  Should have put on more sun screen). 🙂

Here is today’s card –

Card Recipe –

  • Stamp – Swiss Pixies (Camera Birgitta)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiments – AmyR Stamps (Summer Sentiments)
  • Card – Bazzill and Glossy card
  • Paper – American Crafts (Heat Wave)
  • Dies – Spellbinders
  • Sparkly Fluff (Brown Sugar)

Bye for now,

CAS – clean and simple

Welcome back.  I really enjoyed making this card for Catch The Bug Challenge  – CAS (clean and simple).  Last week I picked up a pack of long thin cards, with envelopes which were selling at a very reasonable price and couldn’t wait to make a card with them.  Well here is the first of the cards –

No flowers, ribbon. lace or embellishments of any kind.  Just a couple of plain layers and some paper piercing on 2 corners.  I coloured the lovely Bugaboo Image “Wrapped Up” with Copics.  So definitely CAS.  I am pleased with the result and think I might make 2 more, 1 in red and 1 green.  These will be the beginning of my Christmas card stash.  I picked up red and green card a couple of weeks ago in anticipation of starting Christmas cards but hadn’t had any inspiration to get started.  Now I’m keen to get started on them.

Bye for now,

Little black??? dress

Do you remember the “pipe-cleaner bling” post from a few days ago?  Well someone has asked if I could show you how to make them.  I can do better than that I can give you the link to the Martha Stewart episode where the “pipe-cleaner queen” demonstrates.  Here ’tis.  Click to see the video.

Here are some little dress cards which I made yesterday.  I found a freebie template on the internet and just had to have some fun.

Fun – why don’t you try some?

Bye for now,

Penny Black CIRCLES

The challenge at Penny Black this week is CIRCLES.  Well my card certainly has plenty of die cut circles and dots so should fit the bill.  I have made a “shaker” card with tiny beads to represent the champagne bubbles.

Here is today’s card –

The cute little stamp is of course from Penny Black and the set is called “Bubbly”.  I used lots of Spellbinder dies (perhaps 5).  The brown dotty paper is from Doodlebug and the aqua card and dotty paper from PTI.

Bye for now,

Mojo Monday Take #2

I have posted 2 cards for Mojo Monday #198 Contest (see my previous post for the first card).

Here is the sketch for challenge #198 –

and here is my second entry –

The paper is from Delishdesigns (High Tea), the sentiment is from Verve (Beautiful You), the digital image ballerina silhouette  is from Stitchy Bear (The Audition).

Now I’m off to link the 2 card to the Mojo Monday challenge.

Bye for now,

Mojo Monday take #1

I have made 2 cards for Mojo Monday #198 Contest  (second one just finished now).    This is the sketch for the challenge –

I really wanted to make a fun card for a male.  Most of the cards are for females.  I found it extremely difficult – just struggled, couldn’t find papers I liked, couldn’t find a stamp I wanted to use etc. etc.  I finally settled for this card.  It has all the elements which are on the  sketch so it meets the criteria but just “not happy Jan”.  Anyway here is one of today’s cards –

The paper is by Best Creation Inc. and the digital images are by Whimsy Stamps.

I will post the next card in just a few minutes so check back won’t you.

21st card

I caught up with my SIL and niece yesterday (shocking weather but nice to catch up). We had a chat and quick-lunch at the historic bakery at Maldon.  Here is the cake my clever niece made for her friend.

You can see the colours and cake it self  were the inspiration for my card.

Here is today’s card –

Well I’m off to work on a card for “Mojo Monday”.  Hope I’ll have it finished in time to enter this week’s challenge.  Should have it ready to show you tomorrow (cross your fingers for me 🙂 ).

See you tomorrow,

Pipe-cleaner bling….

On Monday a couple of crafty friends and I got together to do some stampy stuff.  To lighten the day we made some pipe-cleaner brooches.  You might well say WHAT the !!??!!  Here is the long story –

One day last week I got up out of bed, made breakfast and put on the TV to listen to one of those “Morning” shows to hear the news.  Unfortunately/fortunately the TV was on one of the lesser stations and lo and behold “Martha Stewart” was on.  I left my breakfast and went to watch the “pipe-cleaner queen” makes rings for the audience.  I loved it and thought it would be a great little project to show the crafty friends (one has grandchildren and I thought she could entertain them with this project as it is school holidays at the moment).   They both laughed and loved the brooches and wore them the rest of the day – actually they looked quite cute (brooches that is).

One of the women showed us how to recycle lids to make cute little flowers and we also did a bit of heat embossing to make a little note card.  All-in-all we had a lovely day.

Today I’m off to Maldon to catch up with one of my SILs and niece who have asked me to make a 21st card with the colours lime green and brown. My niece had made the 21st cake and these were the colours of the cake.   I’ll deliver the card and we’ll have lunch in one of the quaint cafe’s there.

Bye for now,

Tickled Pink Flowers

Another day …. another competition.  Yes today’s card is for Tickled Pink Stamps Challenge #26 FLOWERS.  I love this digital stamp “Lil Lolita Willow”, she makes colouring a joy – mind you I just love colouring almost anything.  Because it is digital you can change the size which made it perfect because I only wanted the flowers and her face so I could make it bigger to fit the card.  I’m hoping the photo will show the colours and glitter okay because I’m having trouble finding somewhere with enough light.  It is grey, drizzly and windy outside which makes it a challenge for me to get any good lighting.  Can you see that I have layered one of the flowers and leaf to give it a bit of dimension?

Here is today’s card –

Card Recipe –

  • Digital image – Lil Lolita Willow
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiment – Verve
  • Card – Double Mates (Coffee Brown)
  • Paper – Prima (Madeline)
  • Flowers – Wild Orchid
  • Glitter & Gems

Do you like the colours in the card?  Well I was watching “60 Minute Makeover” on Sunday evening and the designer used these colours in a young girl’s bedroom.  When she started I thought it was going to be ghastly but it turned out quite striking so I thought I would try the combination (or something like it) on this card.

See you tomorrow,

Male Card

You probably have guessed that I love making cards for females but you don’t see many cards for males on my blog.  I just find them very very challenging (and a lot of card makers do I think).  So yesterday when I received a comment from Jackie I went to her blog to have a browse around.  What a lovely assortment of cards.  I spotted this one and thought the design was just what I like.  So here is my effort to make a card with the layout she has used.  It didn’t turn out as stylish as Jackie’s but I am still pleased with it.

Here is today’s card –

Card Recipe –

  • Stamp – Inkadinkado (good morning)
  • Heat embossed then shaded with distress ink and copics
  • Sentiment – Hero Arts
  • Paper – October Afternoon (Seaside)

Bye for now,

Flip Phone

The weekend again woo hoo.  The sun is shining and I’m in my craft room with light streaming through the window – what could be better? 😀

Today’s card is for Copic Oz Challenge #12 – Embellish This!!!  Sounds fun hey?!?  The challenge is to create a project  using Copic Markers to colour the embellishments.  I have used copics YG23 to colour the gems, ric rac and “hello kitty” charm and BG02 to colour the liquid pearls on her top.  I also coloured the sentiment strip with TG21.

Here is today’s card –

and here is another shot with the phone opened –

Here are the copic colours I used (oops I put the brown for her hair away – I think they might have been B57 & B59).

Card Recipe

  • Stamp – Stamping Bella (Chatty Cathy)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiment – PTI
  • Sentiment inside phone – Lizzie Anne
  • Card – Bazzill
  • Paper – Jillibean Soup – Spotted Owl
  • Rhinestones – Kaisercraft
  • Hello Kitty and ric rac (unknown)
  • Magnetic discs – Basic Grey
  • Flip Phone template – Arty Farty

Hope you enjoyed today’s card,

Magnolia Summer

This month the All That Scraps Magnolia Challenge #11 is “Summer”.   We have been having some nice blue skies for a few days now but the temperature is just not living up to the views, so summer is just what I’m dreaming about.  I’m thinking about throwing open all the windows and letting warm air into the house – aaahhhh.  So here is Tilda looking out of her open window –

Card Recipe

  • Stamp – Magnolia (Leaning Tilda)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiment – AmyR Stamps (Summer)
  • Card – Bazzill
  • Paper – Prima (Madeline)
  • Embossing folder – Craft Concepts (Woodgrain)
  • Dies – Spellbinders
  • Flowers – Wild Orchid
  • Leaf punch – L-em.com
  • Pearls – Kaisercraft

Bye for now,

A feather in your hat

Hello everyone.  I’ve been having a bit of fun making a few different cards over the last couple of days.  They are the sort of cards I used to make before I became addicted to Copics 😛  The shaped cards bases are from Craftwork Cards in UK (don’t know if they still have them) – I have had them for a long time and have made a few over the years and then I forgot about them in my store of goodies.

Hats off to today’s cards –
