cards and other happy thoughts

Phew … another set of ATC’s

Even though I haven’t been posting often, I have been working steadily in the background.  Today I can show you my second set of ATC’s for this month.  The theme is leaves.

Here is the sneak peek –

Sometimes with card making you can be working away quite happy about how it is evolving and then you put it all together and   nnnnnoooo  it isn’t how you would have liked.  Well that is how I feel today.  It is okay but not quite.

I’ll be back tomorrow with an anniversary card (I have to wait until I give it to the couple).

Bye for now,

ATC’s – Yellow

I have been looking forward to this month’s ATC theme – YELLOW.  I bought the digital scrapbooking kit which had this cute image amongst its goodies months ago in anticipation.  So now I have them ready well ahead of time – pat on the back Lorraine.  Actually I will be away on holiday when they are due so I am planning ahead.  Don’t know if I will get the other set done in time, but I’ll try.

Here is a sneak peek at October’s ATC’s –

Yes that darn song has been stuck in my head since I started on the cards.  Hope you don’t catch it :).

Bye for now,

Another Age Card

Just popping in to show you another AGE card.

I can remember wearing a dress very similar to this, it wasn’t purple but I sure had clothes that were.  White boots and big wide white belts were very “IN” in the 70’s.  😆  So that is where my inspiration came from.  The stamp is another from Tickled Pink.  The paper is Basic Grey Kioshi.  The heart flourish is a Whiff of Joy Die.

Bye for now,

Hungry Snowman

I’m back today with a last-minute entry for Squigglefly Challenge #118 – SFC118 – PAPER PIECING PIZZAZZ.  I have made a cover for a Tic Tac BIG BOX – love these covers.  I have paper-pieced his scarf.

Here is my entry –

If you read my blog regularly you will have seen me use this cute snowman before on tags  (click here to see).  I really think he is so much fun.  He particularly suits Tic Tacs because it looks like he is throwing one into his mouth.  I have added a white pearl to represent the Tic Tac.  The cover is made from Kraft card stock then layered with red card.  I think the ribbon matches well.  It has an organic hessian type look to it with candy cane-like stripes.

Well I’m off now to add my entry to the challenge.

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend,

Black Caviar

My dh and I are not really horse racing enthusiasts but we decided to go to the Caulfield Race Course today to see the famous Black Caviar (who was about the equal Pharlap’s record of 14 straight wins).  It turned out to be a perfect day, a little overcast but pleasant.  We got there to see the first race.  As you can see the crowd was only small.

Here is the crowd before Black Caviar ran

Black Caviar warming up – I’m sure she knows she’s special – just look at the walk on her.

Getting read for the race.

The finish line.  She did it so easily, I don’t think the jockey even had to encourage her.

The winner –

And away she goes to cool down (doesn’t really look very hot does she).

This could be just the beginning for this amazing horse.  Let’s hope they can keep her safe, not like poor old Pharlap.

Recycle/reuse

In my card making journey I have often heard people say “why put so much effort into something that the recipient is just going to throw in the bin in a week or so”.  Well I’m one of the people who hate to throw out their cards.  I keep them until I know that they just HAVE to go.  That doesn’t stress me too much unless they are hand-made and then I really am torn.  My ds sent me a card she made for my birthday earlier in the year.  It is now time for some of them to go, but not hers.  It had pretty flowers and beautiful lace – definitely not throwing it out.  I decided to recycle the card – not difficult but I wanted to give it my own personal touch.  All I did was add a scrap of olive-green mini square paper.  Then I chose a sweet image which I coloured to match the flowers.  The last addition was to heat-emboss a sentiment which I thought suited the new version of the card.  I’m happy with the result and even happier that I didn’t have to throw my sister’s card away.

Here is today’s card –

Hah – just as I am finishing up this post I remember that my sister is a “yoga” fan – it must have been in my subconscious as I was choosing the image – spooky.

Okay that’s all for today,

Sparkles & Swirls …

Sparkles & Swirls – that just has to be a great theme for a challenge, don’t you agree?  Well that is exactly what the challenge is at Whiff of Joy for Challenge #114 “Sparkles & Swirls”.

Here is my entry –

and from the side to show you that it is an easel card and show how I have raised it in parts.

The reindeer is paper pieced but the rest of the image is coloured with Copics.

Card Recipe –

  • Stamp – Whiff of Joy (Wee and reindeer)
  • Sentiments – Penny Black
  • Card – Bazzill
  • Paper – Basic Grey (Life of the Party)
  • Silver Ribbon – PTI
  • Rhinestones – Kaiser
  • Silver mesh ribbon – unknown
  • Dies – Spellbinder
  • Swirly Hear die – Whiff of Joy

Better finish this post off now – someone is waiting to see it (hi friend). 😀

Bye for now,

Daylight Savings

Welcome to another week.  We are now on Daylight Savings Time.  I do love it but the first week or so are always tiring while your body and mind get used to it.

The AFL footy grand final was a beauty.  Right up until the final quarter it was extremely close. Here is the final score –

Geelong 18.11 (119) to Collingwood 12.9 (81), so quite a good win.

Official crowd: 99,537 at the MCG

Now onto more important things – cards 😆

I need some more “age” birthday cards.  I just don’t find them at all easy to make.  Do you have some ideas you could give me on making “age” cards?  Here is one that I made last week (and I will have another soon).

I like the Tickled Pink stamps for women’s cards.  They are still cute but are not quite so girlish.

Bye for now,

Ornamental Mimi

Hello all.  Today I have made a card for the Penny Black Challenge “Winter”.  You will see from the photos that the “bauble” shaped card has a pocket inside to take a gift card.  Gift cards seem to be very popular for presents now so I think this should go down well.

Here are 3 photos of today’s card –

Card Recipe –

  • Stamp – Penny Black (Ornamental Mimi)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiments – Penny Black (Let it Snow Set)
  • Paper – MME (12 Days of Christmas)
  • Card – Bazzill
  • Punch – SU
  • Dies – Spellbinders
  • Flowersoft, glitter

I stamped the image twice, once on white card and again on the background patterned paper.  I then cut out and coloured the white image and used foam tape to adhere it above the patterned paper image.  It is hard to see in the photo but there are some glittery snowflakes stamped on the front and inside of the card.

Now I’ll go to the Penny Black Gallery and post my entry.

Here in Victoria, Australia, it is the Grand Final of the AFL football season tomorrow (Saturday 31 September).  It is Collingwood (Magpies) vs Geelong (Cats).  It will be a huge day for sports fans, In fact it has already started today with a parade down one of the main streets in Melbourne.  I’ll try to get some information on the blog on Monday about the game.

There is only one other thing to say  GO CATS….

Build it up into the sky

Welcome back.  I’m sure you all know the children’s’ building block song –

“build it up, build it up, build it high

build it up up up up into the sky

built it up, build it up, build it higher

build it up up up up up into the sky”

(Well let’s hope that isn’t stuck in my head for too long :))

This little song was the inspiration for my 2nd group of  ATC’s for this month with the theme “Building”.

Here is a sneak peek –

I used the Hero Arts “Cityscape” stamp, stamped it twice and cut out three of the building to raise with foam tape.  They are coloured with copics.  They have turned out a bit “halloweeny” unintentionally.  Must be the influence of all the Halloween cards I have been seeing on lots of blogs.

Well now that my ATC’s are finished I have no excuse not to get to work on some more items for the markets.

Bye for now,

A pretty challenge

This is my 2nd post today, so don’t forget to scroll down if you haven’t seen the 1st post.

Don’t you just love this stamp from Tickled Pink?  I definitely do.  Not only is she cute but easy to dress up a bit too.  I have used her for cards a few times before and you can see the cards here and here.

Today’s card is for the … Wee Memories Challenge #69 – Patterned Paper.  I think I have covered the brief well – I have used 4 patterned papers and 1 plain paper from the Echo Park  Paper Pad “Summer Days”.

Here is today’s card –

I have used the same layout as for my ds’s birthday card which I showed you a couple of days ago.

Her dress and bows are paper pieced and I printed her flowers twice and cut one out and raised it with foam dots.  I have used a little drop of Kindy Glitz on her eye lids, flowers centres and sock tops (you can see this more clearly if you click on the photo).

Card Recipe –

  • Stamp – Tickled Pink Stamps – Lil Lolita Willow
  • Paper pieced and coloured with copics
  • Sentiment – PTI (Mega Messages)
  • Paper – Echo Park (Summer Days)
  • Card – Bazzill
  • Lace and Ribbon from my stash.

Well that is definitely all for today.

Bye for now,

More market goodies

Just popping in quickly to show you a couple more items for the upcoming markets.

Here’s a peek –

If I get a chance I will have another post later today with a challenge card.

Bye for now,

Birthday ATC’s sneak peek

This month’s theme for one of the ATC groups which I am in is “Birthdays”.  Now you would think that would be easy.  Not for me.  I think it was too broad and I just couldn’t settle on one idea.  In the end I have left it so late that it had to be quick and easy, and this one certainly ticked both those boxes.

Here is a sneak peek –

Our garden has plenty of colour at the moment (don’t you love Spring).  Here is a vase of tulips and daffodils I picked yesterday.  You can see that my arranging skills are sadly missing and the angle is bad, but I hope you get the idea anyway.  😀

Bye for now,

Happy Birthday Son

It is my ds’s birthday tomorrow but we have already had a get-together and given him his presents and card so I can post a photo of the card today.

We had a great day yesterday.  The sun was shining and we had a picnic at the lake – lovely.  We were definitely not the only ones there, every one has been waiting for such a lovely day to enjoy a picnic or bbq.  After winter everyone is keen to get outside and enjoy themselves.

Here is today’s card –

I noticed after I took the photo that I hadn’t coloured this belt so I went back and gave him a grey belt.

I have been saving this stamp for ds’s birthday.  Now that I have seen what a lovely image it really is I think it will get to see a lot more ink.

The papers are from Kaisercraft (Prairie Lane Collection) and Cosmo Cricket (Material Girl).  Did you notice that he has dropped some screws while he is using the drill?  They are “Mini Screw Brads” from Karen Foster.  The sentiment is from PTI (Mega Messages).

I hope you enjoyed your weekend too.

Bye for now,

Paper pieced trees

Good morning.    The weekend again and only 1 week until my next market (can NOT believe that).  Must have a look and see what I need to produce this week — eek 😯

Today I am entering the YNS Challenge # 51 – PAPER PIECING!!!  My card is a simple layout which means it could be a good one for mass producing all those Christmas cards you will be needing soon.

Here is today’s card –

Card Recipe –

  • Stamp – Your Next Stamp (Spread the Cheer set)
  • Paper – Crate Paper (Snow Day Collection)
  • Card – Bazzill
  • Ribbon – from my stash

That’s all of the ingredients – see quick and easy.
