cards and other happy thoughts

I’m back……

I’m back from a terrific holiday. Settling back into every-day life is going to be a battle because we’ve been so spoilt on our trip.
Here are just 3 photos from the many that we took over the 10 days. See if you can guess where we have been just from these – I’m sure you will.

If you guessed the “South Island of New Zealand” you get a big tick.   A beautiful country and we enjoyed some very nice weather so couldn’t be better.  A big thank you to our friend who arranged the trip.

Birthdays, cameras, grand finals, bon voyage.

Just a few quick notes because I haven’t been on the blog for a while (haven’t been too well, but getting better).
Firstly here are some photos I took to test out my new camera.  I think I’m going to be very happy with it.

I was quite some distance from the cattle and I was testing out the zoom. Okay – pretty pleased.

It was our youngest sons 30th birthday yesterday – yes that gives away my age doesn’t it 😆

He had his party at a local Mexican restaurant –

Here he is (with a v.large Mexican hat) opening his first present with his son and niece.

Father and son later in the evening – he he he.  There were lots of big hats and moustaches later in the evening.

His birthday cake (sorry it is blurry).  A good friend of their family made this fun cake.

Here is the card I made for him.

It is a centre-step card.

Today is the AFL Grand Final between Hawthorn Vs Fremantle.  I don’t really barrack for either team but I’ve got a bit of a preference for Hawks.  Mid-way through the 2nd quarter Hawks are leading, Fremantle haven’t settled well at all yet.

Now I’m off to make sure that we have everything packed because we’re off to New Zealand in a few hours.  I’ll try to keep in touch while I’m away.

A Tag for all seasons

Today I would like to share with you the tag we made at our crafty get-together.

TAG7

A quick, easy, and I think very cute tag for Halloween, but what I love about this tag is its versatility.  Just by changing the colours it can be for any occasion.

TAG5

Perhaps a birthday or valentines day with these colours.

TAG4

This Christmas colours tag seemed to appeal to most.

TAG6

I think we should try to get more use from our stamps and this is one way of doing so.

Crafty day catch up

Well hello again. I know that I’ve been missing for a while so I thought I’d just pop in to show you one of the projects we made over the weekend at our crafty get-together.

wallet

It is a gift card or money holder.

CreCc

I seriously underestimated the time on this project, the sewing was the problem I think, and we were very late finishing.

I’ll show you another project tomorrow.

Welcome back EWE

I have another card using a Mo Manning digital image.

sheep1

It is my entry to this week’s challenge at DP2 Challenge site which is to choose at least one of Mo’s images and create your own  project using the theme  “Anything Goes”.

sheep3

I chose the image “SHEEP”.  Such a cute image (I’ve used it before here).  I printed the image onto kraft card and coloured it with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol.  Haven’t used this technique for a while, don’t know why because I love it.

I’ve made the card for a relative who has been “over the hills and far away” 😀 for a couple of years but is back down south again now.

sheep2

It is the Federal Election here in Australia today and voting is compulsory so I’m off to vote now – don’t forget will you!

Challenge – “Good-bye summer”

Here in Australia we are saying goodbye to winter – HOORAY say I – but in the northern hemisphere they are saying “Good-Bye Summer”.

At the DP2 challenge site this week they would like to see cards and projects using the theme…   “Good-Bye Summer!”  Football, rain, school, fall colours, etc.  The only stipulation is that you must use a Mo Manning image!  Not a problem  I love her images and have a few 😉

Here is my entry –

fairy 1

The sweet digital image is from Mo and is called “Needle Fairy”.  I’ve cut off the thread part of the image and added some real thread.  I’ve coloured her with Copics.

fairy 3

I thought this card suited the theme this week because I always think indoor pursuits such as sewing and knitting are for the cooler months.  I also tried to use autumnal (fall) colours.

fairy 4

I can’t chat much today because the challenge closes in a few hours.

Here is one final photo of the card –

A farm party

Today is an especially special day – 1st day of spring (hooray), Father’s day (hooray) and one of our Grandson’s 3rd birthday (HOORAY).
I’ll show you the card I made for Jack today. Tomorrow I’ll show you some very cute photos from the FARM party.

Ahoy

Our grandson loves pirates (especially Capt’n Feathersword from the Wiggles) so I thought I should make a pirate card.  I found a similar card on Pinterest which I thought was very cute.  Mine didn’t turn out quite so well, perhaps he should have had a red scarf, but I still think our little man will like it.

Ahoy1

Well “shiver me timbers”, that’s all today but I’ll be back tomorrow you “landlubbers”.

Put it in a TEA POT and make a …… COSY

When we went to the “Quilt & Craft Exhibition” in Melbourne we were thrilled to see the tea cosies made by Loani Prior.  They are so much fun!  Have you seen her work?  Rhonda and I bought a book each and have started with a cosy which we thought might be a good one for beginners called “Hanky Panky” .  This pattern is all squares so no need for a circular needle.  We purchased some cheap wool in case we had lost the knitting knack.  I was hoping to have a photo of both of our tea cosies but I think Rhonda might be too busy to catch up at the moment and I got impatient to show you so here is mine and when I catch up with my friend I’ll show you her cosy.

I have started on a different project now but once that is finished I will be deciding on another cosy – I luv ’em.

It might seem strange me making tea cosies because I’m not a tea drinker but there are people out there who will be getting gifts.

Hoping this is a sign

I was so happy to see these prunus trees in flower yesterday. This surely is a sign that spring is not far away. The weather is still decidedly wintry but I’ll take any sign that any day now the weather will improve. 😀

spring

Beautiful pink blossoms.

SPRING – bring it on!!!!

Book week lunch

Last Sunday we celebrated “Book Week” by sharing a lunch with family.  Each family chose a book and dressed up to suit the theme.  Not going to show you photos of the family in dress-ups ‘cos it could be a bit embarrassing for some (pointing at self ).  The books were –

book wk6      book wk4

The food was also themed to books.  Here are some photos of some of the food.

book wk5

The chocolate mud cake grassy hill where the green sheep was sleeping (oh no – I’ve given the end of the book away) and some sheep cupcakes.

book wk3

little pigs in blankets

book wk1

fairly self-explanatory I think.

book wk2

Pork and crab (not shown in photo) meatballs.

There was also STONE SOUP and Dragons love TACOs but I don’t have photos for those.

Both little kids and big kids had fun 😆

Wobbly Octopus

I have a few things to show you over the next few days, but first I have a card for a challenge.  The August Challenge at Some Odd Girl uses this sketch –

sketch3

and here is my entry –

Octi3

Isn’t it a little cutie.  The digital stamp “Octee” is of course from Some Odd Girl.

Octi1

A close-up so you can see the glitter and shading.  The sentiment is computer generated from words from the Beatles.

Octi2

I made a spring by winding crafting wire around a pen and attaching it to the back of the octopus and then attaching it to the card.  Now the image wobbles wonderfully and I’m sure a child would enjoy watching it jig around.

Octi3

Are you singing that song now….. I have been since I started making this card.

Bye for now,

YNS August Challenge

This is the last thing I should be doing today, but hey I love making cards and blogging so here I am. We have our next family themed lunch tomorrow so I should be cooking and cleaning up – I’ll get to that later 😆

This card is for the August challenge at Your Next Stamp –

Nat1

This is the sketch to use for the challenge –

I’ve used a very cute stamp from YNS called “Nathan from the USA”.  The papers are from Kaisercraft “Cock-a-doodle-doo”.

Nat

I’ve added some twine to replicate (well sort of) a lasso, and a few sheriff stars.

Playing with Paper “Prima” Dolls

I had quite a few sets of paper dolls when I was a child and I played with very often.  I was very upset when my mum gave them away to a more appropriate aged little girl. 😦  So when I saw these lovely “doll” stamps from Prima I really had to use my self-control not to buy them all.

tag

For the next crafty get-together I have an idea for these stamps.  We won’t be using them on the day but getting inspiration from them – I’ll tell you more later.

tag2

I had great fun paper piecing the clothes and adding little bits and pieces.  The stamps are really for mixed media but that is difficult for me so I just did my own style.

tag1

I’m loving these tags are from Prima which are made especially to use with the dolls.  The papers I’ve used for all of the paper piecing are an old pad  from Basic Grey “Wisteria”.

Hairy fun – do you remember these?

Today I have some photos of my some of my grandies showing what we have been making when I’ve been babysitting. Do you remember growing grains of wheat on wet cotton wool in a saucer as children, well this is the same idea just with a bit more staging.

jw1

This is the first stage and it took a lot of concentration to glue the eyes and nose to the bottle 🙂

JW

Phase 2.  The grass has grown to provide some lovely green hair.  These were made a while ago with other grandies.

Grass people

I think the kids enjoyed making and watching them grow (nearly as much as grandma 😆 ).

Little sister missed out on having her photo taken – must have been asleep.
