Here is the sketch for Monday Mojo 163 contest
Click on the sketch to check out the entries in the current contest.
My card uses Basic Grey “Indian Summer” paper. I love the colours in the paper. All of the stamps (butterfly, scroll and sentiment) are from the Verve “Blue Skies” set.
I’ll have some photos from the Melbourne Cup for you tomorrow. See you then.
Well I have started on my Christmas Cards. Once I get going I really quite enjoy making them – it’s just the thought of so many of the same theme. Christmas presents are another matter. It just seems far too early. How many days now? 50 something?
I love the sentiment on the cards below. Do you call this a “Rebus”? I know one of my sons is very good at these, so for him it will be easy.
Have you worked it out? Not hard was it –
Peas Peace on earth and goodwill to all men.
See you tomorrow,
Here is a brief summary of The Melbourne Cup for anyone overseas.
The Melbourne Cup is Australia’s major horse race – known as “The race that stops a nation”. It is the richest and most prestigious “two-mile” handicap in the world. The race was first held in 1861. The total prize money for the 2010 race will be AUD$6 million, plus trophies valued at $125,000.
The event is held at around 3 pm on the first Tuesday in November each year at Flemington Racecourse in Melbourne and is one of the most popular spectator events in Australia, with sometimes more than 110,000 people attending the race.
It is a gazetted Public Holiday in many places in Australia. For those at work on the day, everyone will stop at 3 pm and huddle around a TV or radio to watch or listen to the race and barrack for their bets or sweep picks, then back to work again. Participating in a Melbourne Cup “sweep” is an Australian way of life becoming the focus of the day. ( “Sweep” – up to 24 people put in the required amount, usually $1 – $5. Then ‘your’ horse is selected by pulling a name out from the list of all horses in the race. There’s no betting skill involved. The prize money is given to whoever was lucky enough to draw out 1st, 2nd and 3rd place-getters and usually whoever drew the last horse will get their bet back for winning ‘the wooden spoon’. People often enter sweeps for their kids or partners and will buy a few entries.)
It was estimated that 80 percent of the adult Australian population place a bet on the race. Australians bet about AUS $150 million on the Melbourne Cup in 2009.
‘Fashions on the Field’ is a major part of the day, with substantial prizes awarded for the best-dressed man and woman. Race day fashion can draw almost as much attention as the race itself.
Phar Lap, the most famous horse in the world of his day, won the 1930 Melbourne Cup. He won the Melbourne Cup as the shortest priced favourite in the history of the race at 11/8 odds on.
*I got help from Wikipedia with some of the facts and figures.

I’m back today with another competition card (I thought it closed tomorrow, but no, it’s today).
“Papercraft Star” has a “photo inspiration” challenge here .
The papers on this card are from Cosmo Cricket “Wanted” and Basic Grey “Pyrus”. I think the Spellbinder Leaf Dies are “to die for”. The sentiment is from Papertrey. I added two small charms and punched along the edge with a Martha Stewart edge punch. The paper ribbon is “Smitten” by K&Company which I coloured to suit with Copics.
The sentiment on this card could be for you. Thank you for coming to read my little blog.
A very quick post just to show you the ATC’s I have finished for October. The theme – “Australia”. I have to jump in the car to deliver them to The Imagination Factory – yes that is right – they are due today.
See you tomorrow with another competition card.
….. Yes I am because this is the first time I have used a Tickled Pink Stamp …. and I just love her. She is “20’s Evie”. Is she what they call a flapper? Let me know. This stamp was a treat to colour with Copics. I didn’t have to do much more to the card because I think she is such a feature. Both papers are from K&Company. The sentiment is from Hero Arts.
Bye for now,
Copic Oz’s challenge this month is “feathering”. I have tried to show the technique on the mermaid’s hat, hair and tail. Here is a link to go to the Copic Oz website.
The mermaid is a Sweet November Stamp from CC Designs. The paper is from the Prima “Fairy Flora” pad which I embossed with Tim Holtz embossing folder. I added some pearls, flowers, dew drops and a little sparkle (which doesn’t show up in the photo) then coloured her with copics.
No more posts today 😀 See you tomorrow.
I made another card from the sketch on the Mojo Monday site.
It turned out to be very different from the previous card even though I used the same sketch. I used Kaisercraft paper from the Devonshire Collection paper pad. The cute little ballerina is an Inky Antics stamp which I coloured with copics.
Here is the link if you would like to see the other cards on the Mojo Monday site.
See you later today probably with a variation on a card I have posted previously (if all goes as planned).
I haven’t been adding much to my blog lately – sorry. I hope everyone hasn’t forgotten I’m still here 😕
This is my entry for Mojo Monday 162. It is the first Christmas card for the year. This has inspired me to start making more. Hopefully inspiration will turn into actual cards.
To make this card I used Kaisercraft Bird Song and Vagabond paper (complete coincidence that I used 2 Kaiser and then I used their red pearls as well). The background stamp is Hero Arts “A Village”. The santa and sleigh stamp is from Crafty Individuals.
This is the sketch we are to use for this competition –

I promise I’ll be back tomorrow with something new.
I realised that I have been making quite a few light-hearted female cards, but no male cards. To rectify this a little I have combined some Inky Antics and Emerson sentiments with Bugaboo digital stamps (Gus – what a cutie??). Here are a couple of examples –
A very quick post because I’m busy again getting ready for the next market this Sunday. Here is a selection of cards I have made using my favourite Emerson stamps.
See you tomorrow
I’m home from a fishing weekend at Laanacoorie. The two trophies went to Brendan who was the lucky fisherman – “largest fish” and ‘most fish” caught. It is a very sad story – only one fish was caught and that was a carp. The weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday was bad – heavy rain and flood warning for the Loddon River. Luckily that didn’t eventuate but it was very cold. Despite these sad facts fun was had by all. Here are some photos (sorry that I don’t have photos of everyone).
“Would someone help me with these rubber boots, I want to hurry and go fishing?”
“I’m happy with the blocks, fishing doesn’t sound like fun (you have to sit in the cold and wet and be quiet).”
“The one that got away was this big.” “Fishing really wears a boy out.”
“What sort of fish is this??”
“At least I can catch something this way.”
UNO this takes a lot of concentration.
Bye for now,
Here is a shaker card that I am experimenting with. Not my usual style or colours, but I think it has turned out okay.
I have used The Robin’s Nest Diamonds (similar to Dew Drops) in the shaker, and now I look at it again I should have used white micro beads for the shaker part instead of purple/pink.
I won’t be posting over the weekend, but I’ll see you again on Monday.
Well I haven’t made any cards again today . Here are all my excuses – I am rearranging my craft room, I have a cold, I just had to watch the very exciting Commonwealth Games women’s Hockey Gold Medal game between Australia and New Zealand. What a great game, not just because Australia won. It was a real nail biter, coming down to a hit out.
Well enough of all that. I have a couple of cards from my stash to show you. These girls are individuals for sure. The stamps are from Stampotique. The paper is “Matilda” from Cosmo Cricket. I found the little badges at an airport of all places.
Bye for now,
I took a day off from cards and blogging today. I went to see “Ghost Writer” with Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan and Kim Cattrall. I hadn’t read much about it but it was on at the right time for me, so off I went not expecting much. It was really good. I didn’t guess where it was going at all – I would rate it 4 stars. (After typing my rating I checked how Margaret and David from “At the Movies” reviewed it – they both gave it 4.5 stars). Not bad. If you get a chance to see it let me know what you think.
Bye,
