cards and other happy thoughts

Something new (for me)…

Last night I was at the computer (far too late) looking through some of the blogs which I hadn’t had time to enjoy for a while.  and I came across Jacqueline’s Craft Nest again.  I was inspired to try some tags (in which Jacqueline excels).  If you scrapbook and then try making a card I suppose you think the smaller area is a challenge.  Well that is how I found the tags – so much less room.  I am really enjoying the tags and can see myself being obsessed if I’m not careful.

Here are a few I made with free images from the web (eg. my-shabby-dream and other blogs).

I have printed up some more pretty images so I will probably show you some more tomorrow.

See you tomorrow,

What’s new pussy cat?

Today’s card is for Tickled Pink Stamps Challenge #2  “I {Heart} You” .  This challenge is ONLY for Tickled Pink Stamps Ranges.  I thought Mollie would be just the stamp to use with the cute Max & Whiskers paper.  I was going to put a thought bubble above her head with a fish in it but changed my mind at the last moment (I had everything cut out and coloured).  Instead I went I bit girly with lace, flowers and a heart (which I coloured with copics then glittered up).

  • Stamp – Tickled Pink (Sitting Mollie Mittens)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiment – Whimsy Stamps (Love you sayings)
  • Paper – Basic Grey (Max & Whiskers)
  • Flowers – Wild Orchid
  • Heart – Bella Chips
  • Lace & Ribbon – unknown

Bye for now,

trying my hand at pse

Today I just have a sneaky look at invitations I am helping my dil with.  2 of my grandchildren are coming down to visit in Feb and it happens to be near both of their birthdays.  So while they are here we are all going to have a birthday party – hooray.  I am helping with the invitations so I thought I would try to use Photoshop Elements so they could be emailed out rather than posted.  I am happy enough with my first attempt – later I will probably look back and laugh.

That’s all for today.  I’ll be back tomorrow with a competition card I am working on.

Twine – Challenge

Second post today.  The wee Memories Challenge # 38 “Design with some Twine” is closing tonight – talk about leaving it to the last minute.  This really stretched my imagination.  I had a stamp of a cowgirl with lasso and I nearly went with that, I had a girl on a swing and I nearly went with that, but then I remembered the frog and I thought he could be holding a skipping rope and jumping.    I probably chose to use the frog stamp because I had just cleaned up some googly eyes  which had fallen out of their packet, or was it because there are little frogs (only a bit bigger than my thumbnail) and snails climbing all over the outside walls of our house trying to keep out of the water (we had another 60 ml over-night which I know is nothing like up north but still very wet).

I have just realised that I can insert bigger photos (duhhhh).  Do you prefer this size?

  • Stamps – Simon Says Stamp
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Paper – My Minds Eye (Bloom & Grow)
  • Dies – Spellbinders
  • Flower – Prima
  • Dragonfly, leaf punches
  • Twine
  • Googly eyes

See you tomorrow,

Just saying hello

Amongst the things on my desk I found a card base folded, pink crimped paper, heart paper (plus far too much more – must tidy again).  It really only needed a focal point to finish off a card.  I wanted to use this stamp but she was a bit longer than the crimped card so had to add something.  Added the doily and pink lace and I think it works.  Wasn’t sure if her sweet little mouth was saying “hello” or was shocked at something she had just heard.  Decided it was hello.

  • paper – Basic Grey (Olivia)
  • stamp – Stamping Bella (Chatty Cathy)
  • coloured with Copics
  • doily – Martha Stewart
  • dies – Spellbinders
  • ribbon & lace – Unknown

Bye for now,

High Hopes – Anything Goes…

High Hopes Stamps have a competition called “Anything Goes”  –  use any High Hopes card or image.  I have used the stamp “Bethany Angel” and sentiment “Sunshine & Sunflowers”.  I think I must be a bit addicted to these pocket cards at the moment – can’t help it – just enjoy making them.

  • Stamps – High Hopes (named above)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Paper & Ribbon – PTI
  • Doily – Paper Inklings Heart Stickers – Tim the Toyman Foam Stickers

Now if you don’t like PINK you might want to look away now.

And here is a close up of the packet of seeds.  I think I will buy a packet of sunflower seeds to put in it eventually, but I had these Verbena seeds on hand.

I thought the sentiment was a bit ironic considering the amount of rain we are having just now.

See you tomorrow,

Bee happy

Today’s card is the for The Cat’s Pajamas Tuesday 140 Challenge

I think the inspiration hat is – (can I say “cool” at my age?) cool.

My first thought was “Reggae”.  Then the shape and flowers made me think bee hive.   So I used a bit of artistic licence and coloured the stamped bee hive black.  Then I borrowed and adapted part of the song “Don’t Worry, be Happy” for the sentiment.

Here’s the result – not sure if it works – but I was happy making it.

  • bee hive stamp – (can’t remember – it came in a bag of bargain stamps years ago)
  • bee stamp – stampin bella
  • sentiment – computer generated
  • paper – Doodlebug “patchwork”
  • Die – Whiff of Joy (Grass)
  • Flowers – Prima
  • Kindy Glitz
  • Ribbon unknown

Hairspray

Well I had a lovely day yesterday.  My dd gave me a ticket to HAIRSPRAY for Christmas and yesterday off we headed to Melbourne.  First of all we had lunch at Crown in the “Breeze” Restaurant and this is the view we had from our table.

How lucky where we?  Very lucky.  It was overcast but not raining which was good because after lunch we walked from Crown to the Princess Theatre.  Fancy seeing a gondola on the Yarra River along the way.

We had a “cuppa” to revive after the walk at the Federici cafe at the theatre.

The show was great.  I had watched the movie (on DVD) but didn’t think much of it, but the stage show I really enjoyed.  I am a live show enthusiast (although I don’t get to go often) so perhaps that explains it.  I noticed in the program that a couple of the actors had links to Ballarat = Tracy Turnblad (Jaz Flower) attended BAPA, Tammy (Ashlea Pyke) = Ballarat born and bred.

See you tomorrow with a card related post.

Copic Oz Challenge #6 – It’s Summertime

This morning’s card has been fun to make.  I’m entering it in the Copic Oz “It’s Summertime” challenge.   I should add a disclaimer here because I think there might be some of us who can see their “nearest and dearest” slowly turning into “Gus”.  So… “Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purely coincidental ”  he he he 😀

Here is a side view to show that it is an easel card of sorts.

  • Digital Image & Sentiment stamps – Bugaboo Stamps (Gus – at any age)
  • Other images – sandcastle & shells – computer generated
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Paper – Kaiser (Seaside)
  • Twine & button – PTI

I’m off to Melbourne to see the show “Hairspray”.  I’ll tell you tomorrow how I enjoyed it.

Bye for now,

Another challenge – in more ways than one

Well today’s card challenge is a beauty for me.  It is the Papercraft Star #27 New Year’s Resolutions “Make a card, layout, altered item, gift or home decor project using one of your New Year’s Resolutions as your inspiration. Be sure to include the New Year’s Resolution as part of your project description on your blog!”

I don’t “do” New Year’s resolutions, but if I did I know what it should be.  My life is very sedentary.  I make cards for hours – sitting.  Surf the web for hours – sitting.  Even my work is office work – now only a few hours – sitting.  I know for my body and mind’s sake I should be exercising.  So this card pretty much says it all for me.

I think this image is priceless.  I have had the stamp sitting in it packet for well over a year, so hooray, it now sees the light of day.  The sentiment I bought with it is still waiting.  I saw this saying on the web and thought it was perfect for me 😀    Hope you enjoy!

  • Stamp – I brake for stamps (No Pain no Gain)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Sentiment – computer generated
  • Paper – Cosmo Cricket (Material Girl)
  • Stickers – Bella Accents (I thought the 2 on the right looked like drops of perspiration)

Bye for now,

Mojo Monday 172 – contest

Today is windy and overcast but warm already – supposed to reach a top of 31°C – at this stage can’t see that happening.  Okay that’s all from Mrs B Meteorology.

Because of the wind I had to take a photo of today’s card inside and try to find the brightest spot.  In real life it is quite a happy and cheery card but it hasn’t turned out that way in the photo.

I am going to enter the Mojo Monday 172 contest.  I haven’t entered a Verve Stamps competition in a while, so I am enjoying the challenge.   It’s back to normal next week after 2 lovely weeks of holiday (our business is open again from Monday).  So for these last few days I’m trying to enter as many fun competitions as I can.   Here is the sketch:

  • Stamps – Stampin Bella (Gwendolyn LULU);  Hero Arts (Sentiment)
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Paper – PTI
  • Embossing folder – Craft concepts (in bloom)
  • Rhinestones – Kaiser
  • Ribbon – unknown

See you tomorrow,

Lucy’s Sketch Week – Day 3

I was going to delete this photo of my card for Lucy’s Day 3 Sketch because the sun hit several spots on the leaves and the card.  Then I changed my mind because I rather liked the way the heart on the left looks like it is glinting and the highlight on just some of the leaves. This is the Day 3 sketch  →

  • Digital image – Mo’s
  • Coloured with Copics
  • Paper – Basic Grey (curio) – yes Rhonda I went and bought some after seeing yours 😀
  • You warm my heart sentiment – PTI
  • Lace – Kaisercraft
  • Stick pins – unknown

Bye for now,

Lucy’s Sketch Week – day 2

See you tomorrow with day 3 hopefully,

Lucy’s Sketch Week – day 1

I have loved Lucy’s blog for over a year and am really pleased that she has a challenge I can join.

This is the SKETCH

and here is my card.  I chuckled to myself when I was thinking of the sentiment to use.  There is a bit of media attention on trains running late lately at the moment, so “sorry I’m late” for a birthday seemed just right.

  • Paper – Basic Grey (Oliver)
  • Stickers –  ”        ”            “
  • Sentiment stamp – Taylored expressions (Pet’s Place)
  • Twine – Karen Foster (Honeydew)

I’m thinking that I might join in on a few of this week’s challenges by Lucy.  We’ll see.

Bye for now,
